TITLE: A Better Tomorrow
YEAR: 2023
INSPIRATION: When I think of joy and happiness I think of colour. Colours have a remarkable ability to evoke emotions and convey symbolism. They can tell stories, evoke memories, and inspire hope. This painting focuses on the plight of the endangered mountain gorilla, a species listed as endangered on the ICUN’s red list. By using red paint to depict the gorilla, I’m emphasising their vulnerability and their precarious position on the list. The red hues serve as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect these remarkable animals. I’ve juxtaposed the gorilla with a vibrant and inviting green background, symbolising hope, growth and the potential for positive change towards a green status for this animal. My choice of colours challenges the audience to consider hope and joy for the species’ future. It invites us to take action and imagine a world where these incredible animals thrive.
