TITLE: The Last Laugh
YEAR: 2025
INSPIRATION: Inspired by my first encounter with a kookaburra at Hoo Zoo, this piece reflects the quiet tension of that moment. The bird stared straight ahead, as if deciding whether to break the silence with its iconic laugh. Kookaburras are known as “bushman’s clocks,” their laughter echoing through the trees at dawn and dusk. Yet this one remained still, almost contemplative. Through this painting, I wanted to capture that pause, the space between sound and silence.
