INSPIRATION: This painting showcases the striking violet turaco as it perches gracefully on a branch, one foot stretched out as if performing an elegant balancing act. This moment was inspired by a visit to Tenerife’s Jungle Park, where I captured far too many reference photos of a variety of birds, but none as captivating as this turaco’s gymnastics display. Its vivid plumage and poised stretch stood out a mile, embodying both grace and agility in perfect harmony. Native to the forests of sub Saharan Africa, violet turacos are a symbol of biodiversity and natural beauty. This piece is a tribute to the turaco’s vibrant life and the delicate balance of the ecosystems they call home, a reminder of the importance of protecting such awe inspiring species and their natural environments.
