TITLE: Orangutanya
YEAR: 2022
INSPIRATION: I saw this baby orangutan while at Chester zoo, with determination she climbed all the way from the bottom of the enclosure to the glass and her admirers. She was watching us just as much as we were watching her and this painting captures that connection between humans and orangutans. In all the excitement I was able to capture a beautiful moment where she gave the onlookers a quick thumbs up, I like to think it was her way of saying she was having as much fun as we were. With Bornean Orangutans being critically endangered, this painting celebrates the determination of this species and the joy they bring, and I’m grateful I was able to capture such a beautiful moment. Upon finishing this piece I donated a print to the zoo and it’s currently on display for all the primate keepers to enjoy.
