TITLE: Reporter Of War
YEAR: 2021
INSPIRATION: The asiatic cheetah. I had to give the subject a voice. The asiatic cheetah is native to Iran. A country which is at odds with the western world and therefore is ‘alien’ to western culture. Human rights abuses, a lower level of animal welfare for livestock and domestic animals and poaching exist in Iran. What resonated with me was how little I knew about this unique animal due to political and cultural division. As I researched the subject I felt like I was given a glimpse into a uneasily familiar world of animals in danger, from an unfamiliar place. I chose a colour scheme in line with the Iranian flag as there is a conservation effort. I felt that it showed that in a unfamiliar country, we can still find hope in our shared interest to protect and conserve nature. There are less than 40 of these animals left in the wild.
