TITLE: Salvador Sharky
YEAR: 2022
INSPIRATION: For this piece I wanted to focus on the ocean and the wonderful creatures found there, as I haven’t created much work in this area before. Dusky sharks (a species of requiem sharks) have been assessed as near threatened and are sought after for their meat, skin and liver oils. They’re also vulnerable to human caused population depletion due to their highly valued fins which are often used for shark fin soup. I wanted to show this fish in a new way, and thought why not give this fishy friend a moustache. Immediately Salvador Dali’s famous facial feature came to mind, he also had an affinity for animals, and was seen sporting shark jaws on his head a time or two, so it seemed like a match made in heaven.
