TITLE: Swinging Symphony
YEAR: 2023
INSPIRATION: During a visit to Chester Zoo I was captivated by a gibbon’s posture. The way he sat was so intriguing that I couldn’t resist putting him on a swing in my artwork. I’ve really enjoyed working on this piece and the challenge that came with using oils paints. The background is a blur of colour and motion and brings a certain energy to the painting that I’m really happy with. I’ve carried that through to the gibbon with specks of colour here and there to tie it all together. The result is a painting that I believe truly captures the spirit and energy of that moment at the zoo and the joy found in every creature. It’s important to note that this gibbon is a Silvery Gibbon, an endangered species, which adds a layer of significance and urgency to this piece.
