TITLE: That Was Yesterday
YEAR: 2016
INSPIRATION: This piece was inspired by ‘That Was Yesterday’ by ‘Foreigner’. I wanted to create a sense of longing for a past that you can’t get back to. I chose the gorilla as the subject as they have the strength and stoicism to carry the heavy feeling of loss and longing. I chose a dark and troublesome background to help the viewer feel the burden loss causes on everyone. In films, subjects are portrayed moving from left to right and this subconsciously creates the idea the subject is moving forwards with their life toward positivity. I chose to inverse that to fit the theme of this piece and feel I have created a challenge for the viewer to look upon.
