Tiger Tiger Burning Bright – Original Painting

£260.00

53x63cm Framed

TITLE: Tiger Tiger Burning Bright

YEAR: 2016

INSPIRATION: For this piece I was inspired by a poem by William Blake called The Tyger, the opening line is “Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry?” In the poem Blake is trying to find meaning in the creation of the tiger, they’re dangerous, so who is responsible for such an animal? The imagery he creates shows a fiery animal, scary even, don’t get too close or else. I thought it would be a great juxtaposition to have such a scary animal lying quite calmly while a child crawls or plays on him. The girl doesn’t care that he’s a big scary tiger, he’s furry and she feels the vibrations of his purrs as she climbs on his back, it tickles and makes her laugh. The colours used show his fiery nature but reality shows that he’s just a big pussy cat.
