INSPIRATION: I managed to snap a photo of this rockhopper penguin at Edinburgh Zoo mid hop, arms flung wide as if asking for a hug. It was such a joyful, unexpected pose that I couldn’t help but smile. These birds are wonderfully odd, with their flamboyant eyebrows, spiking out like they’re ready for a night out. There’s something so endearing about their boldness and bounce, and this one had real character. I felt instantly inspired to paint him.
