TITLE: It’s My Party
YEAR: 2023
INSPIRATION: When I saw this black lemur sat on a shelf at Chester zoo I knew I had to paint him, he looked far too grumpy so I thought I’d play on that. I imagined him hiding on bookshelf instead of attending his own party…we’ve all been there! With this piece, I’ve also taken the opportunity to hide a few facts about lemurs in the book titles. “Follow Her Lead”, is a cheeky nod to the fact that lemurs have a female dominant society. “Conspiracy Theories”, I just loved that a group of lemurs is called a conspiracy. Finally, “Seeing Red”, well the truth is they can’t! They can differentiate between blue and green but not red. This painting really explores not only the personality of lemurs but what makes them such unique animals.
