TITLE: Pigeon Party
YEAR: 2022
INSPIRATION: This painting is a homage to the humble street pigeon. For this piece I set out to convey how I see beauty and poise in a living creature and yet some see them as rubbish eating, vermin. As I explored what background colours to compliment the subjects, the similarity in the appearance of the birds and the diverse opinions that a pigeon can illicit in people made me think of another creature we share our beautiful planet with… Politicians! The uniformity of their suits and coloured ties, the grey answers they give and how divisive politicians are in our everyday lives, seemed like a perfect match. With that in mind I chose red, blue, yellow and green representing the leading parties in the UK. The initial aim of this piece was to credit the common pigeon, but the thought process which led me to seeing them in a different light made me enjoy this journey so much more. It wasn’t what I set out to do, the art led me in a different direction and I am pleased with the merging of politics and pigeons.
