TITLE: How Very Flamboyant!
YEAR: 2024
INSPIRATION: During a visit to Welsh Mountain Zoo when watching the flamingoes I was taken by the stance of one in particular. I loved the shape his neck made as he bent down to nibble at the ground, the artist in me was inspired by the bold and striking colours of his feathers and I had to try to capture the movement in his body. I chose to depict this flamingo in my colour splash style as it allows me to be freer with form and to focus less on detail and more on the feeling of the animal. I wanted his body to be an explosion of colour and movement while showing a very still flamingo. Did you know that a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance…and this fella was very flamboyant indeed!
