TITLE: Farming 9-5
YEAR: 2021
INSPIRATION: With my stackable animal series I aim to let my love of animals shine through using quirky fun designs and promoting species that need supporting. Sometimes it’s nice to just stop and think of where things come from and how privileged we are to have access to food and materials, this painting celebrates the farm animals that work so hard for us every day. When I was designing this piece the song 9-5 by Dolly Parton came to mind, and it inspired me to give each animal their own character and show them as workers on a farm. I took each animal in turn and gave them accessories or clothing you’d find in that environment…a little lunch box, hardhat, ear protectors and wellies all help to make these animals fit in as employees. There was lots of trial and error coming up with different designs and colour coordinations which worked, but I thoroughly enjoyed the process and it made me fall in love with these cute animals a little bit more. It’s hard to say which one is my favourite but there’s just something about a tiny chicken wearing a bow tie that speaks to me.
